Firefighters found the dog on a bedroom floor and rushed it to safety. Rescuers gave the dog oxygen to recover from the smoke.
After a few minutes, Diego began to stir and regain consciousness. Thankfully, he was still alive, but he was a bit wobbly.
Luckily, his rescuers had saved his life. The dog was in good hands, and the fire department praised Martin as a hero.
A video of the rescue is now going viral online. A pair of Rhode Island boys, Mario Comella and Anthony Lombardi, heard the fire alarms as they rode their bikes past their friend’s house. The two boys ran to investigate, and while they were there, they discovered the dogs inside.
Mario Comella called his friend, who was also a neighbour. The young men were able to save the dogs after putting out the fire by using their broom and water.
The firefighters say that a dog alerting its owner to a fire is a very rare occurrence, but it isn’t unusual. In one case, a dog called the owner when it heard a window breaking, while another dog alerted an adult, preventing the fire from spreading.
Luckily, the dog’s rescuer was not hurt, and the fire department’s arrival time was about four minutes. The fire department also took photos of the dog to help the family, and Butter recognized the fawn in one of them.
A central Pierce county firefighter has saved the dog and reunited it with its owner. The fire department believes the home was intentionally set on fire, and a man who started it led investigators on a short manhunt.
According to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District 3 website, the home is a total loss. The fire department said that the investigation is continuing, but there was no word on the man apprehended.
